Round and Round is designed to show the effects of accelerated gravitational motion and centripetal force, but only once you surrender control of the coin. The object elicits a sense of nostalgia and early childhood memories of asking a parent for coins to ‘play’ with the charity coin funnels whenever they appeared.
Round and Round uses the physical and mechanical nature of an artificial object to briefly freeze these emotional moments so we can enjoy them again. Coins were provided in a hanging purse - specifically one reminiscent of my mother/grandmother - but visitors could use their own coins and make a wish. All proceeds were donated to Refugees Welcome Portugal.
